CARRYING YOUR ROOTS

2025 - ONGOING

Carrying Your Roots is an ongoing photographic project that explores the relationship between identity, culture, and self-expression through the body.

Although traditions are often described as disappearing, I am more interested in how they shift and take on new forms. Many people still carry their roots with them, not necessarily in traditional ways, but through personal expression in how they present themselves, what they wear, and how they embody who they are.

Each photoshoot is a collaboration, shaped together with the person in front of the camera. The aim is to create images that feel honest and personal, reflecting their story in a way that respects their background and individuality. In these photographs, you can see how Lumi & Madelief express and carry their roots through clothing, jewerly, tattoos, nails, and other personal details that become part of their identity.

This is a long-term project that will grow gradually over time. I am currently looking for more people to take part. If you feel connected to the idea and would like to be photographed, you are welcome to get in touch.
